Porcelain Veneers Springfield Missouri (MO)

Porcelain Veneers are a thin piece of porcelain that resembles the enamel of the tooth. Veneers are bonded to the front surface of the tooth with minimal tooth reductions. Veneers can change the color, shape, and size of teeth making them look more natural and beautiful, mimicking mother nature's luminosity and opalescence. They are ideally used for discolored teeth, fillings that are too large and noticeable, crooked or misaligned, chipped or worn down teeth spaces between teeth, or teeth that are too short, long or wide. There are two types of porcelain veneers that your dentist will decide which one is best for you. Feldspathic veneers, such as “lumineers ” brand are used when closing spaces or making slight tooth color changes. Usually you do not have to grind off any enamel or if you do, very minimal such that numbing is not necessary nor any temporaries need to be made. The disadvantage with this technique is that they can be a little bit bulky since your adding porcelain to the front of the tooth that has not been prepped. Pressed veneers “Empress” are the second type of veneer. The tooth is reduced .5 to .7 mm so they do not feel bulky. In this case a patient needs to be numb and temporaries are made while the final product is finished. While wearing the temporaries, the dentist can shape them to the patient’s satisfaction and then permanent veneers are duplicated to that look. Most veneers today are made by the “pressed” technique because the patients want something that not only looks good but feels good as well.

All Porcelain Crown and Bridges

When a large portion of the tooth structure is decayed or worn down, a crown may need to be placed to restore the tooth. In the past, porcelain metal crowns were used to give the tooth the strength with a natural appearance. Crowns that have a metal substructure are strong, but do not resemble the look of a natural tooth as an all porcelain crown does. A bridge is made up of two crowns and a false tooth in between. We are now making all porcelain bridges as well because they look better than porcelain metal bridges.
