White Fillings, Bonding and Teeth Whitening
Tooth color fillings "white filling" are replacing amalgams "silver filling." One advantage of the tooth color fillings is a more natural appearance. More importantly, your dentist will not have to remove as much tooth structure.
Bonding is used to repair chips and spaces between the teeth. In these cases, the dentist uses tooth color filling material to fill the spaces or repair chips. This procedure can usually be done without being numbed.Whitening is the least expensive and simplest way to brighten the color of your teeth. Bleaching is used to whiten dark, dull or stained teeth. We have found that the take home method gives the best results in the long term. However, we do provide the one hour, in-office bleaching for faster results. This process usually needs to be followed with other recommended products.
Laser DentistryIn our office we have three types of lasers. The Diagnodent is a laser used to detect decay. In the past we used a metal explorer to determine if a tooth was decayed but since the use of fluoride it made enamel so strong that an extremely small hole that opens into the tooth cannot be detected by an explorer until it gets large enough. The diagnodent will detect the small areas so we can fill them before they get too deep. The soft tissue laser “diagnodent II” is used to treat gum problems. Examples of this are frenectomies, removal of gum abnormalities like fibromas, and treatment of canker sores, etc. Even with the soft tissue laser we only have to use topical anesthetic to accomplish most tasks. The hard tissue laser “Versawave” is used for tooth colored fillings, bone recontouring, de-sensitizing of teeth, etc. The advantage of using a laser for fillings, we can make a more conservative prep design and remove little good enamel as possible with most of the time without numbing the patient.
